PostSubject: A Nightmare on Elm Street series   Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:06 pm

Another series of genre classics that no horror forum would be complete without. From the brilliant first film, to the disappointing second, to the goofball cheesiness of the third and so on, these films have always been a staple in my regular horror film diet. It's too bad that Wes Craven started going downhill so fast.

I like all of them. However the first two are probably the scariest IMO.

I loved the first three, after that i think New Line went to far into comedy and farther and farther away from the horror with each entry following part 4.

Part 1 and 2 only for me...and New Nightmare was not that bad...

Once Freddy turned into a wise cracking comedian, I lost interest...

Love up to "Dream Warriors" & I must say I also like "New Nightmare" a lot as well, I always thought Freddy had his wise cracks, even from the get go, especially the whole hall pass scene after Nancy freaks out in class!! freddy

I never looked at the Nightmare movies as Slasher flicks...I'm probably in the minority, but whatever...

And yeah, he did wisecrack in the first two, but he was scary...once Dream Warriors came out and little kids were worshipping him, that was the end...

Yeah his character and makeup was by far more intense in the first 2, and they also contained the most brutal kills of the series, I guess I misunderstood your point. As for considering them slashers I do it because it is easy, but really they can fit into different genres, just depends on how one wants to define them.

Borderline stubborn Laughing Laughing

Part 1 and 2 had some funny bits but they were few and far between 4-6 seemed to loose any horror aspect the series once had and they dwelled on the comedy to much. Hell his glove stopeed being a killing tool that right there is a problem

I only really liked the first one. That movie was great. The second one gayed me out. The third was too cheesy but had it's moments. I've seen the rest of the movies except New Nightmare. I hated Freddy vs. Jason but I knew I would anyway.

Honestly, I can care less about all that, I still dig the film for the most part, & have some laughs while doing so. The pool scene is priceless! freddy

You mean the dude who played Jesse? I could care less but he did come off that way in the film.

You are all my children now

That was one of the best moments of the series, no matter what tones were in the film it still wasbrutal and there was not the Groucho Kruger comedy hour we would come to see in the sequals

His makeup and evil presence were at their peak in the first 2 films IMO!
